Music Video Research

Locations
Jacks Home
Jacks house is located in Coventry which for me would involve getting a bus or train to be able to go and film at that location. Some benefits of shooting at Jacks house is that it's private meaning we will be able to film without any disturbances, it features some open spaces and decent lighting for us to film in.

Galley Common
Has a bridge which will be very useful for our idea for our video, is outdoors however and can be very muddy, and slippery presenting risks of tripping or falling and injuring rocks, or even falling from the bridge itself

Devils Drop Bridge
Another outdoor location bit further than previous, featuring same benefits and also similar risks

Focus Groups
Me and Morgan both planned to do a focus group, and we discussed what we will do and what information we wanted. So we planned to show the group the song we were making a video for and we created a number of sheets which asked four questions so we could general idea of what the group would want so see for this song. These questions were:

Thoughts of the song
Colours
What their favourite genre is
What narrative comes to mind

From the 15 people in the focus group we got a variety of responses which helped influence our decisions for our music video. However, by only doing one small focus group we couldn't get a a good amount of quantitative data, and not the most qualitative data.

When going through my research I noticed many issues, for example the information I got from my focus group wasn't a lot, and this was probably due to doing a small focus group and also because of the lack of questions I asked and the simpleness of the questions which didn't get more detailed answers I was hoping for. If we had gotten a larger focus group we could have gotten more varieties of answers giving us a broader perspective of what our audience likes, which would have allowed us to create something more tailored towards those audiences. Also if the questions asked were also a bit more open ended we could have been given a lot more detail into what our audience might want and any specifics they want to see or what appeals to them. For example we could have asked what their favourite genre was and why they enjoyed it, which could have given us answers like having something more upbeat to watch and not too slow.

It probably would have also been good if I were to do a questionnaire as well as a focus group as this would have allowed me to get a much large sample size to work with finding out data of what genres are most preferred, and listened too meaning I could have gone a done something more appealing to a wider audience.

Jack who I worked with on the music video did also do a questionnaire however
